There aren’t many areas of the UK that you can truly say offer something magical to couples whatever their individual wedding tastes may be, but I think the vast range of North West wedding venues definitely can. Whether it is the stunning tranquil beauty of the Lake District, the rolling, verdant hills in the Cheshire countryside, or the hugely vibrant and chic cities of Merseyside and Manchester: the North West really has got it all.
When it comes to picking the venue itself though, this is where it can get difficult for couples, with so much choice in this wonderful region.
However, as a North West wedding photographer, I have been lucky enough to visit a wide range of places, catering to a vast variety of tastes. To help make that choice just a little easier for you, here are my favourite North West wedding venues, for a completely unforgettable day with all your loved ones!
The breathtaking Colshaw Hall is a beautiful Grade II manor house nestled in the heart of the Cheshire countryside. I have previously mentioned this wedding venue in Cheshire before, but I’m mentioning again, as it is just that nice it is absolutely worth mentioning twice!
It is hard to not fall in love with the venue all over again whenever you see its picturesque walled garden, viewed from the Peel suite and one of the locations you can elope in at the Hall. And that is not all: the barn-style ceremony with its marble floors and majestic oak beams is yet another reason to say yes to this venue.
Duddon Mill Farm is absolutely perfect as a wedding venue if you are looking for something romantic yet a little bit boho too. I particularly love the endless rows of apple trees in the orchard: it makes for a totally idyllic backdrop, especially for your wedding photos. Located near Tarporley, in rural Cheshire, you can say ‘I do’ within the 30 acres of farmland, making it an excellent choice for those wanting a truly rustic wedding. Ideal for the Tipi or marquee wedding of your dreams!
Tucked away in the enchanting Lake District, to get to this 17th-century farmhouse and barn in Cumbria, you have to go through a secretive country lane, adding to the mystery of this wedding venue and making it even more desirable than it already was!
If you are looking for the ultimate fairytale venue and secluded bliss, this is absolutely the location for you and your partner. There are so many reasons to swoon: the babbling brook, the magnificent pond, and the secluded woods being just some of them.
If you would prefer a vibrant city venue, then definitely consider the effortlessly cool LEAF on Portland street. Located close to the bustling, atmospheric St Peter’s Square, and only a few minutes walk from the iconic Central Library and Town hall, it is a perfect central location for your loved ones to get to.
The venue is an idyllic combination of modern yet sophisticated: owing to its exposed brickwork and soft skylight in what was previously a RIBA and cube gallery.
Does everyone know you for always doing something a little out of the ordinary? Well, if you want to continue to surprise your loved ones, then why not pick the totally unique Hidden River Cabins? Not only is it completely different from your average wedding venue, but you have unrivalled views of the mesmerising river Lyne from this location. If natural beauty is what you are after, then Hidden River Cabins will certainly deliver.
And that is not all: the venue also has accommodation that means up to 58 people can stay, just great for an intimate celebration in the countryside!
Honestly, who couldn’t possibly love this gem of a venue with its stunning ornate Victorian Orangerie that captures light in such a delicate, serene way: exactly what you want on your wedding day!
A bonus of choosing this beautifully restored greenhouse in Liverpool is that you don’t need to worry about the weather. Given this is the UK we are talking about, that is a pretty big deal! One less thing to worry about.
Another favorite of mine in Liverpool has just got to be Oh Me, Oh My. Based in the heart of this wonderful city, you can absolutely go wild with creativity if you opt for this venue. Definitely the place for couples searching for an incredible blank canvas (with a super friendly events team more than happy to accommodate your ideas) and an amazing outdoor space to go with it too.
You only have to briefly glimpse at Dorfold Hall to understand why I have included this venue on the list! This magnificent Jacobean stately home and its grounds are a sublime backdrop for your wedding photos, especially the peaceful lake and the immaculately kept gardens surrounding it!
This idyllic barn located just four miles from the picturesque Yorkshire Dales National Park is definitely the one for couples looking for a venue with oodles of charm. Eden Wedding Barn absolutely has this and more! The traditional barn, featuring rustic oak doors, is over 200 years old and perfect for those looking for somewhere on their wedding day that is full of romance. For the reception afterwards, check out the spacious bar area with a truly eye-catching floral canopy. What’s not to love about it!
Looking for a unique, sophisticated wedding venue that is also eco-friendly? My top pick absolutely has to be GreenAcres Rainford in Merseyside! If I could sum up this magical venue in two words, it would be enchanting and secluded, as you are surrounded in 65 acres of breathtaking woodland, and if you are planning a summertime wedding: vibrant wildflower meadows too!
The historic Mitton Hall (built in the 15th century no less!) in the rolling Lancashire countryside is ideal for those looking for a wedding location that has both a spectacular building guests will immediately be captivated by (tick!) as well as superb outdoor grounds that provide shelter, making it perfect whatever the weather may be on the day (double tick!).
Steeped in Cheshire history, The Holford Estate is a restored 18th-century barn that harmoniously combines both old and new features. What I mean by this, is that you get to enjoy all the wonderful original features of the barn (as well as the ancient stone bridge which takes you to the impeccably kept gardens and shrubs!) whilst also benefiting from the state of the art technology they have installed too. A winning combination I’d say!
Last but absolutely not least is the outstanding Abbey House Hotel. This incredible building has undergone a mammoth multi-million-pound restoration to become an amazing wedding venue (with plenty of room for guests) but has been lovingly restored in such a way that it still has very much managed to keep its Edwardian character. A real feat!
See, there is something that works for everyone, right? If you feel like you’ve narrowed down your dream location to tie the knot from this list of North West wedding venues, but are now on the lookout for a photographer, then I’d love to capture this special time for you! You can contact me here.
